Escape Pain

Active lifestyles

Chronic joint pain affects over 8.75 million people in the UK and is the leading reason for NHS referrals to Active Lifestyles in the New Forest.

Escape Pain is an evidence-based course designed for patients suffering with lower limb osteoarthritis and/or chronic joint pain. The sessions are designed to support patients to self-manage pain, increase physical function and improve quality of life.

The course is six weeks long with two sessions per week and patients can access the Active Lifestyle scheme for 12 weeks in total. After finishing the scheme patients are offered the opportunity to transfer to the Active Lifestyle graduate programme.

You need to be referred onto the course by a healthcare professional so ask your Physiotherapist or GP for an Active Lifestyle referral today.

For acceptance onto the course you must:

  • Be over 45 years old
  • Have a diagnosis of osteoarthritis in your knees or hips and/or be suffering from knee or hip pain for three months or more
  • Be independently mobile
  • Be able to communicate well enough to participate in a group setting
  • Have no health conditions that could prevent you exercising
  • Need help and support to become more active

Once referred patients can visit their nearest participating centre or call 023 8028 5531 to book an Escape Pain assessment with one of our advisors.
